Taiga: Agile Project Management With Scrum and Kanban
Taiga is a project management platform built specifically for agile teams. It is known for a clean, friendly interface that makes Scrum and Kanban approachable for teams that find Jira overwhelming.
Features
- Scrum: backlogs, user stories with points, sprints, and burndown charts
- Kanban boards with swimlanes and work-in-progress limits
- Epics spanning multiple stories
- Issues for bugs and requests, separate from planned work
- Wikis per project
- Importers from Jira, Trello, GitHub, and GitLab
- Integrations with Slack, GitHub, GitLab, and webhooks
Projects can use Scrum, Kanban, or both.
Deployment
The official taiga-docker repository provides a Docker Compose setup: configure basic settings (domain, database, email, OAuth) in an .env file, run ./launch-taiga.sh, and create an admin user. Use the stable branch for production. Advanced configuration is possible by mapping config files. Put it behind a reverse proxy with HTTPS.
Taiga is made of several services (backend, frontend, events, async workers, and PostgreSQL and RabbitMQ), so it is heavier than single-binary tools.
Taiga or the alternatives?
- Planka and Wekan: simpler Trello-style boards
- OpenProject: broader project management with Gantt and cost tracking
- Plane: a modern issue tracker with cycles and modules
Choose Taiga for a team that works in sprints and wants a friendly Scrum tool.
