solidtime: A Modern Open Source Time Tracker for Freelancers and Agencies

solidtime tracks where your working hours go and turns them into billable time. It is aimed at freelancers and agencies, and it looks and feels like the commercial tools it replaces, Toggl Track and Clockify.

Features

  • A timer and manual time entries
  • Projects, tasks, and clients
  • Billable rates at the organization, project, and member level
  • Multiple organizations per account, useful if you freelance for several agencies
  • Role-based permissions for teams
  • Reports by project, client, and member
  • Import from Toggl, Clockify, and CSV, so switching does not mean losing history

Deployment

solidtime is a Laravel (PHP) application with a Vue.js frontend and PostgreSQL. The project publishes self-hosting guides with Docker Compose configurations; follow the documentation for the current setup, since it involves a few services and environment variables. A hosted version at solidtime.io is also available.

How it compares

  • Kimai: the veteran open source time tracker, very configurable, with invoicing built in
  • Traggo: tag-based and minimal
  • Leantime: project management with time tracking included

solidtime’s advantage is a polished, modern interface that clients and team members will actually use. For invoicing from tracked time, pair it with Invoice Ninja.
