Linkding: Fast, Minimal Bookmark Manager

Linkding is a bookmark manager built around speed and simplicity: save a URL with tags, find it again later.

What it does

Bookmarks with tags and notes, full-text search, bulk editing, and optional archived snapshots through the Internet Archive or a local single-file archive so a saved page survives the original going offline. Imports from browser bookmark exports and other services are supported.

The interface is deliberately plain and loads instantly, which matters for something you interact with dozens of times a day.

The client ecosystem

For a small project, Linkding has an unusual number of third-party clients built against its API: the browser extension for one-click saving, Linklater on Android, LinkThing on iOS, and Linkding Injector which surfaces your bookmarks inside search engine results. That breadth is what makes it practical across devices.

Versus the alternatives

Karakeep archives full page content and adds AI tagging, which is more capable and considerably heavier. Linkwarden sits between the two with collections and richer archiving. Shiori and Shaarli are similarly minimal alternatives.

Linkding is the right choice when you want bookmarks and tags, not a knowledge base.

Deployment

A Django application shipped as a Docker container with SQLite by default, which is entirely adequate. Resource use is minimal enough that it is a reasonable addition to an already-busy Raspberry Pi.
