Audacity 4.0.1 was released on September 30, 2026. It is the first point release after the Qt-based Audacity 4.0 redesign, and the first Audacity 4 release with a download page here; the last Audacity 3 release is 3.7.8. We covered 4.0.1 in the news.
What changed
Data safety:
- Fixed project corruption when a save failed
- Fixed corrupted clips when converting
.aup3projects from Audacity 3 - Files with non-ASCII names or paths now open, and upper-case extensions like
.WAVare recognised
Linux: the AppImage installation and startup problems are fixed. An ARM64 AppImage is also published.
Usability: the Audacity 3 keyboard shortcuts are back, keyboard navigation improved in the timeline and Effects panel, and notifications work with screen readers. Export Multiple can batch-export tracks or labelled regions.
Fixes: VST3 settings reverting during playback, effect value entry, and a crash when dragging clips; faster label and clip moves and undo/redo.
