Tracearr: Monitoring, Account-Sharing Detection, and Newsletters for Plex, Jellyfin, and Emby

Tracearr watches your media servers, Plex, Jellyfin, and Emby, from one dashboard. It shows who is streaming what and from where, and it is built to answer a question every server owner eventually asks: is someone sharing their account?

Features

  • Unified monitoring across all three servers, including live TV and music
  • Account-sharing detection: impossible-travel alerts, device velocity checks, simultaneous locations, and a trust score per user
  • Session analytics with geolocation down to ASN and region
  • Stream termination from the dashboard
  • Automations, with more than 20 built-in templates
  • Newsletters: per-server schedules (daily, weekly, monthly, or cron) with send history per recipient
  • Catalog matching across multiple servers, and a public REST API

Deployment

Tracearr uses TimescaleDB (a PostgreSQL extension) and Redis. The simplest route is the supervised all-in-one image, which bundles the app, database, and Redis in one container. The standard image expects you to run PostgreSQL and Redis yourself, which is better if you already operate them. The repository documents both.

How it compares

  • Tautulli: the long-standing Plex statistics tool, Plex-only
  • Jellystat: statistics for Jellyfin
  • Tracearr’s differences are covering all three servers in one place and its focus on sharing detection and automation

Privacy

Tracearr stores where and when your users watch. If you share your server with friends or family, tell them what is collected; monitoring people’s viewing is a trust question as much as a technical one.
