Tautulli: Plex Monitoring and Statistics

Tautulli watches a Plex server and records everything it does, turning a media server into something you can actually administer.

What it tracks

Live activity showing current streams with quality, bandwidth, and whether the server is transcoding. Complete watch history per user and per item. Library statistics covering what is popular and what has never been played. Server performance over time.

For anyone sharing a server, the history is the useful part: it answers who is using it, how much, and from where, which is otherwise invisible.

Notifications

Tautulli’s notification system is unusually capable: alerts on new content added, playback started or stopped, server down, transcode thresholds exceeded, or new devices appearing. It routes to Discord, Telegram, email, ntfy, webhooks, and many more, with fully customizable message templates.

Newsletters summarizing recently added content can be generated and emailed to your users, which is a pleasant touch for a shared server.

Why the transcode data matters

Transcoding is what turns a comfortable server into an overloaded one. Tautulli shows which users consistently force transcodes, usually because of client limitations or bandwidth settings, which lets you fix the cause rather than buying a bigger CPU.

Mobile

Tautulli Remote covers the app side.

Note on scope

Tautulli is Plex-specific. Jellystat covers similar ground for Jellyfin.
