Tunarr: Build Live TV Channels From Your Plex, Jellyfin, or Emby Library

Tunarr: Build Live TV Channels From Your Plex, Jellyfin, or Emby Library

Tunarr turns the media you already own into live TV channels. Build a channel of 90s sitcoms, a Saturday-morning cartoon block, or a 24-hour movie marathon, and Tunarr plays it on a schedule like broadcast TV, complete with a program guide. Sometimes not choosing what to watch is the point.

Features

  • Pulls content from Plex, Jellyfin, Emby, or local files
  • Presents channels as a spoofed HDHomeRun tuner, so Plex, Jellyfin, and Emby add them as Live TV
  • Also outputs M3U playlists and XMLTV guides for any IPTV player
  • A drag-and-drop lineup editor, time slots, and filler content such as commercials, bumpers, and music videos between shows
  • A web-based TV guide
  • Hardware-accelerated transcoding with NVIDIA NVENC, VA-API, Intel Quick Sync, and macOS VideoToolbox
  • Per-channel audio and subtitle language preferences

Deployment

Docker Compose is the main route; standalone binaries, Unraid templates, Proxmox LXC scripts, and ARM builds for Raspberry Pi also exist. Pass through your GPU for transcoding if several people will watch at once; our Jellyfin hardware transcoding guide covers device passthrough, which works the same way here.

Once running, add Tunarr in your media server’s Live TV settings as an HDHomeRun tuner, using the XMLTV URL for the guide.

Tunarr or ErsatzTV?

ErsatzTV solves the same problem and is the other major option. Tunarr grew from the dizqueTV lineage and emphasises its visual lineup editor; ErsatzTV has a deep scheduling engine. Both are worth trying against your library.
