Receipt Wrangler: Self-Hosted Receipt Management
Receipt Wrangler is a self-hosted application for capturing and organizing receipts, including splitting shared expenses between people.
What it actually does
Upload or email in a receipt and it runs OCR to extract the merchant, date, and amount, then categorizes it. From there receipts can be assigned to groups and split between members, which makes it useful for households and shared living situations rather than only for personal expense tracking.
Why not just use Paperless
Paperless-ngx archives documents brilliantly but treats a receipt as a document: it will not total your spending or work out who owes what. Receipt Wrangler understands receipts as financial records, which is a narrower and more useful model for this specific job.
Pairing with a finance tool
For full budgeting, Firefly III or Actual Budget remain the ledger. Receipt Wrangler covers the capture and evidence side that ledgers handle poorly.
Deployment
Docker Compose with a database and a volume for stored receipt images.
