InvenTree: Open Source Inventory and Parts Management

InvenTree: Open Source Inventory and Parts Management

InvenTree tracks parts and stock: what you have, where it is, how many, and what you need to build something. It is especially popular with electronics makers, hardware labs, makerspaces, and small manufacturers, where knowing exactly which resistor drawer is running low saves real time.

Features

  • Parts with categories, parameters, images, and attachments
  • Stock across nested locations (rooms, shelves, bins), with serial numbers and batches
  • Bills of materials (BOMs) and build orders that consume stock
  • Suppliers and manufacturers, with part numbers and pricing
  • Purchase and sales orders
  • Labels and barcodes, including scanning
  • A REST API and a plugin system
  • A companion mobile app for iOS and Android

Deployment

InvenTree is a Python/Django application with a React frontend, supporting PostgreSQL, MySQL/MariaDB, and SQLite. Install with Docker Compose, a bare-metal installer, or a one-line install script on supported distributions. PostgreSQL is the recommended database for anything beyond a small test.

How it compares

  • Homebox: home inventory for household items, warranties, and receipts, much simpler
  • Snipe-IT: IT asset management, tracking laptops and licences assigned to people
  • Grocy: groceries and household consumables

InvenTree is the one built for components and stock levels with BOMs and builds.
