Glance: A Fast, Config-Driven Homelab Dashboard
Glance is a self-hosted dashboard written in Go that pulls your feeds, services, and system information into a single page defined by a YAML file.
Why self-host Glance
Most homelab dashboards are link grids. Glance treats the page as an information display: RSS and subreddit feeds, market prices, weather, release notes for repositories you follow, Docker container status, and server resource usage all render as widgets alongside your service links. It is a start page you would actually leave open rather than one you click through.
What it does
Glance falls into the Dashboards category of self-hosted software. Layout and content are configured in YAML rather than through a UI, which makes the whole dashboard version-controllable and easy to reproduce. It is deliberately lightweight, loads fast, adapts to mobile, and supports theming plus a community widget collection for cases the built-in widgets do not cover.
Community traction
The project has over 36k stars on GitHub, having grown very quickly since release, and is now one of the most recommended dashboards in homelab communities.
Deployment
Docker is the standard path, with the configuration file mounted into the container. The binary is a single Go executable, so running it directly on a host without Docker is equally straightforward.
Alternatives
Homarr offers a drag-and-drop UI and Docker integrations for people who prefer configuring visually. Homepage is the closest philosophical match, also YAML-driven. Dashy and Homer are long-standing options in the same space.
Maturity
Current releases are in the v0.8.x series. The project is pre-1.0 and marked beta, but is widely deployed and actively maintained.
License
Glance is released under the GNU Affero General Public License v3.0.
Links
Glance suits anyone who wants their homepage to show information rather than just links to it.
