Dynacat: A Glance-Based Dashboard With Live Reloading and a UI Editor

Dynacat: A Glance-Based Dashboard With Live Reloading and a UI Editor

Dynacat is a self-hosted start page and dashboard. It is a fork of Glance, keeping Glance’s fast, information-dense design, and adding two things Glance deliberately avoids: content that reloads on its own and tighter integration with external applications.

What it adds to Glance

Dynamic reloading. Glance renders a page when you load it. Dynacat widgets refresh their content in place, so a dashboard left open on a wall display or a second monitor stays current.

A UI editor (v3.0). Glance is configured entirely through YAML. Dynacat 3.0 added an interface-based configuration editor, while keeping YAML for people who prefer version-controlled config files.

Theming by adjusting a few values, or picking a bundled theme.

Features inherited from Glance

  • RSS feeds, Reddit, Hacker News, and YouTube channels
  • Weather, calendars, and market data
  • Docker container status and service monitors
  • Custom API widgets for anything with a JSON endpoint

Deployment

Like Glance, it is a single small binary or Docker container configured through one YAML file. Mount your config and go. Resource use is tiny.

Glance or Dynacat?

Glance is the more established project and its static-on-load design is part of its speed and simplicity. Choose Dynacat if you want a wall-display dashboard that updates itself, or you would rather edit configuration in the browser. The two share a configuration format, so moving between them is straightforward. For other options, see Homepage and Homarr.
