GIMP 3.2.6 was released on September 10, 2026, two point releases on from 3.2.4. We covered it in the news.
What changed
Text and font performance. Documents with many text layers, and systems with large font collections, were slow on operations that should be instant. Font enumeration was the usual culprit, and 3.2.6 improves it, which matters most to designers with big font libraries.
Cutting layer groups. A layer group can now be cut as a unit. Layer groups are how any non-trivial composition is organised, so operations that work on groups as well as layers remove a lot of friction.
Stylus dynamics. Expanded pressure and tilt handling for graphics tablets makes the painting tools more practical.
Installing
The source tarball above is for building and packaging. Most people should install from their distribution or Flathub, which the GIMP project itself distributes through:
flatpak install flathub org.gimp.GIMP
An official AppImage is also linked from the downloads page.
Where GIMP is now
Since 3.0 ended one of the longest development cycles in open source, point releases have arrived regularly with real improvements. The GTK3 port was the blocker; 3.2.6 is the steady refinement that followed. For tablet users, pair it with an up-to-date kernel driver: our input-wacom download covers new tablets.
