Dokploy: Lightweight Self-Hosted PaaS

Dokploy: Lightweight Self-Hosted PaaS

Dokploy is a self-hosted platform-as-a-service that deploys applications from Git or Docker images with automatic routing and TLS, positioned as a lighter alternative to Coolify.

Why self-host Dokploy

Deployment platforms charge for build minutes, seats, and bandwidth. Dokploy replaces that with a single VPS: connect a repository, and it builds, routes traffic through Traefik, issues Let’s Encrypt certificates, and restarts the service when you push. The stack it stands on, Docker Swarm and Traefik, is boring and well understood, which is a genuine advantage when something breaks at 2am.

What it does

Dokploy falls into the DevOps and Deployment category of self-hosted software. It handles application deployment from Git repositories, Dockerfiles, or Compose files, provisions PostgreSQL, MySQL, MariaDB, MongoDB, and Redis databases, manages domains and certificates automatically, schedules backups to S3-compatible storage, and supports multi-node clusters through Swarm. A template catalogue covers common open-source services.

Community traction

The project has roughly 34k stars on GitHub and has grown rapidly, now consistently appearing alongside Coolify and CapRover in self-hosted PaaS comparisons.

Deployment

A single install script on a fresh Ubuntu or Debian server brings up the whole platform, after which everything happens through the web UI.

Alternatives

Coolify is the larger project with a broader service catalogue and more configuration surface. CapRover is the mature, long-standing option. Dokku is the minimal CLI-first ancestor for people who do not want a web interface at all.

Maturity

Dokploy is pre-1.0, currently in the v0.29.x series, and under fast development. Read release notes before upgrading production deployments.

License

Dokploy is released under the Apache License 2.0.

Dokploy suits people who want Coolify’s workflow with fewer moving parts.
