PeaZip 11.3 Improves ZPAQ Handling, Shows Compression Ratios, and Adds Blue Themes
PeaZip 11.3, the cross-platform open source archive manager, was released on September 26.
What is new
- ZPAQ: a “force typing password interactively” option. ZPAQ is a journaling archiver with very high compression and built-in deduplication, popular for incremental backups
- The archive creation screen now shows compression percentage and ratio, so you can see whether a heavier method is worth the time
- An “Open with” screen on Shift+F12
- The integrated password manager now requires a master password, closing the gap where saved archive passwords could be read without one
- A test mode for PeaZip’s own PEA format
- Two new themes, Blue and Blue-Dark
- Better filename handling across operating systems
Under the hood
Backends move to 7-Zip/p7zip 26.03 and Pea 1.33. PeaZip now recognises 243 file extensions and is built with Lazarus 4.x.
Getting it on Linux
PeaZip ships GTK2, GTK3, and Qt 6 builds, as DEB and RPM packages and portable archives, and is on Flathub. The Qt 6 build fits best on KDE Plasma, the GTK3 build elsewhere.
For the command line, the formats PeaZip handles are covered in our guides to tar, xz, and zip, and the tar command builder helps with the flags.
