COSMIC 1.10 Makes the Launcher GPU-Rendered and Lets You Map Drawing Tablets to a Display
System76 released COSMIC 1.10 on October 8, two weeks after COSMIC 1.9, continuing its fast cadence for the Rust-based desktop.
Launcher speed
The biggest fix is in the launcher, which now renders with GPU acceleration (wgpu) by default. On many systems, scrolling through launcher results had become painfully slow; the change addresses that directly.
New features
- Drawing tablets can be mapped to a specific display, which artists with multi-monitor setups have been waiting for
- Environment variables in
~/.config/environment.dare now applied to the session, the standard systemd mechanism our environment variables guide touches on - Support for custom SSH agents, such as a hardware-token or password-manager agent; see our ssh-agent explainer
- File open and save dialogs remember your sort order
- The COSMIC Store gains a screenshot gallery, and the terminal can move tabs with the keyboard
- Compositor fixes, including reworked cursor auto-hide
COSMIC ships by default on Pop!_OS and is packaged for Fedora, Arch, and others. If you are choosing between it and other Wayland desktops, our desktop environments guide compares the options.
