Teable: A Self-Hosted Airtable Alternative Built on PostgreSQL
Teable gives you an Airtable-style interface, a spreadsheet you can use like a database, running on your own server with PostgreSQL underneath. In September 2026 the undb project archived its repository and moved to Teable, making it the continuation of both projects.
Features
- Views: grid, form, kanban, gallery, and calendar over the same data
- Real-time collaboration, with formulas, filtering, sorting, and aggregation
- Field types for links between tables, attachments, and more
- Automations and an app builder
- AI features: chat over your data and AI-filled fields (some are paid features)
Why PostgreSQL matters
Airtable-style tools often store data in a format only they can read. Teable’s tables are real PostgreSQL tables, so you can query them with SQL, back them up with standard tools, and connect BI software such as Metabase directly. If Teable ever stops being the right tool, your data is still in a database you understand. Our PostgreSQL basics guide covers backups.
Deployment
The official image is ghcr.io/teableio/teable. It needs a PostgreSQL database alongside it, and the repository provides Docker Compose files that set up both. Put it behind a reverse proxy with HTTPS.
Editions
The Community Edition is AGPL-3.0 and self-hostable. Paid plans unlock the AI features and enterprise functions. Check which features you need before planning a deployment around it.
How it compares
- NocoDB: the most established alternative, which can also sit on top of an existing database
- Baserow: similar scope, also PostgreSQL-based
- Grist: more spreadsheet than database, with Python formulas
