Plexamp: Plex's Dedicated Music Player

Plexamp is the music-focused client for Plex, built by the Plex team as a separate application because general media clients handle music badly.

Why a separate app

Plex’s main clients are designed around film and television: large artwork, resume points, episode lists. Music needs different things entirely, and Plexamp provides them: gapless playback, crossfade, loudness levelling, a proper queue, and library browsing that understands albums, artists, and composers rather than treating tracks as short videos.

Features worth the install

Offline downloads for listening without a connection to your server, mood and sonic-analysis-driven playlists, a visualizer, and a genuinely good radio mode that builds mixes from your own library rather than a streaming catalogue.

Requirements

Plexamp requires a Plex Pass subscription for full functionality, and of course a Plex server with a music library. If you are self-hosting music primarily and do not otherwise use Plex, Navidrome with a Subsonic-compatible client is usually the lighter path.
