MySpeed: Self-Hosted Internet Speed Test Tracker

MySpeed runs internet speed tests on a schedule and keeps the history, turning a one-off number into evidence.

Why continuous testing beats a manual test

Running a speed test when your connection feels slow tells you almost nothing: you have one sample, taken at the worst moment, with no baseline. MySpeed tests automatically at a set interval and charts download, upload, and ping over days and weeks. That produces the thing an ISP support conversation actually requires, which is a pattern rather than an anecdote.

What it shows

Time-series charts of throughput and latency, historical comparison, and alerts when results fall below a threshold you set. Tests run against Ookla’s network by default.

Deployment and placement

Docker, with a small database volume. Placement matters for accuracy: run it on a machine wired to the router rather than on Wi-Fi, or you will be measuring your wireless network rather than your internet connection.
