HA Kiosk: Kiosk Mode App for Home Assistant

HA Kiosk turns a spare tablet into a wall-mounted Home Assistant control panel.

The problem with using a browser

Pointing a tablet’s browser at a Home Assistant dashboard almost works, and then does not: the address bar takes up space, the screen sleeps and requires unlocking, notifications interrupt, and an accidental swipe navigates away. A kiosk app removes all of that.

What it handles

Full-screen display with no browser interface, screen wake behavior tied to motion or schedule so the panel is on when someone is in the room and off otherwise, and locking the device to the dashboard so a guest cannot wander into settings.

Hardware

Old tablets are the natural candidates, which is part of the appeal: a device too slow for general use is perfectly adequate for rendering one dashboard. Plan for permanent power, and check whether your tablet supports charge limiting, since batteries kept at 100% continuously tend to swell over a couple of years.
