Kernel Command Line
Also known as: kernel parameters, boot parameters, cmdline
Options passed to the kernel by the bootloader at boot, such as quiet, root=, or nomodeset, visible in /proc/cmdline.
What Is the Linux Kernel Command Line?
Kernel parameters change behavior before anything else runs: which root filesystem to mount, which drivers to disable, how verbose to be, or which CPU mitigations to apply.
Edit them for one boot by pressing e at the GRUB menu, or permanently via GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX in /etc/default/grub. Runtime tunables that can change after boot live in sysctl instead.
