Thunderbird 157 was released on September 30, 2026, two weeks after Thunderbird 156. We covered it in the news.
What changed
A CPU fix. The status bar could stay active after activity finished and keep a CPU core at 100%, draining laptop batteries. That is fixed.
Enterprise policies: DisableChat turns off the built-in chat, and DisableFileLink turns off FileLink, which uploads large attachments to cloud storage.
Fixes for:
- IMAP saving to Sent, and disappearing messages
- Gmail OAuth2, Exchange NTLM, and SMTP authentication
- OpenPGP rejecting valid keys
- CalDAV task syncing, invitations, and recurring event dates
- Yahoo mail display
Also new: the Thundermail add-on moves to 2.0.16, the port field is optional in manual IMAP/POP setup, and remote content can be shown in integrity-protected OpenPGP messages.
