fwupd 2.1.8 was released on September 24, 2026. fwupd is the daemon that updates firmware on Linux, pulling signed updates from the Linux Vendor Firmware Service (LVFS). We covered this release in the news.
New hardware
ASUS GX5407, Elan fingerprint reader 0CB6, FocalTech MOC fingerprint sensors, the Lenovo ThinkPad Thunderbolt 4 Dock Gen 2, MaxLinear MxL862xx, MediaTek MT9700 and MT9701, additional Pixart devices, and Rolling Wireless RW101.
Notable changes
- bootupd plugin, so fwupd coordinates with the bootloader updater used on image-based systems like Fedora CoreOS and the Atomic desktops
- Updated DBX hashes, the UEFI Secure Boot revocation list, for machines that cannot fetch them online
- RSA-3072 signature verification for Lenovo accessories
- A workaround for
systemd-pcrosseparator.serviceextending PCR0, which matters if you unlock your disk with the TPM - Fixes for a buffer overwrite parsing Synaptics CAPE HID reports, TPM event log memory leaks, and Logitech Unifying recovery
