Clonezilla Live is a bootable disk imaging and cloning system: boot it from USB, and it copies whole disks or partitions to an image, or directly to another disk, copying only used blocks where the filesystem allows. Version 3.3.3-37 is a new stable release.
What changed
Linux 7.1.13 replaces 7.0, and the base system is refreshed from Debian Sid as of September 13, 2026. Partclone 0.3.50, the tool that does the actual block copying, includes a Btrfs fix.
LUKS2 image repositories. The destination where images are stored can now be a LUKS2 encrypted volume, so backups of your disks can themselves be encrypted at rest. Our LUKS guide covers creating one.
Network boot for Clonezilla Lite Server. Lite Server, which images many machines at once over the network, now supports both PXE and HTTP Boot clients, with Secure Boot support for HTTP Boot. That makes it practical for modern UEFI fleets without disabling Secure Boot.
Faster identical restores. Image conversion can be skipped when restoring to identical disks or partitions.
Fixes
- An LVM
system.deviceslocking problem on RHEL 10, AlmaLinux 10, and newer - Size or filesystem detection failing on a bare disk that contains a filesystem directly, with no partition table
- The menu to power off, reboot, or drop to a shell not appearing after cloning finished
When to use it
Clonezilla is the tool for whole-disk images: before a risky upgrade, when moving to a new SSD, or when deploying the same image to many machines. It is not a file-level backup tool. For regular backups, see restic vs borg. Our Clonezilla disk imaging guide walks through a full image and restore.
