Calibre 9.15.0 was released on September 18, 2026. We covered it in the news.
What changed
- “Create your own Adventure”, an optional interactive writing game. It is opt-in and separate from the library workflow; nobody managing books encounters it unless they look for it
- E-book viewer improvements
- Bug fixes
What Calibre is for
Calibre is the most capable e-book library manager available, and its value is in unglamorous features:
- Format conversion between EPUB, AZW3, MOBI, PDF, and more, so a book bought in one format can be read on a device that wants another
- Library management with metadata, covers, and tags fetched automatically
- Device syncing for e-readers
- A content server that serves your library to phones and browsers over the network
Installing
Calibre’s own installer is the recommended route, because distribution packages often lag behind the weekly releases and the project does not support them:
sudo -v && wget -nv -O- https://download.calibre-ebook.com/linux-installer.sh | sudo sh /dev/stdin
That installs to /opt/calibre, and running it again updates in place. As always with piping a script into a shell, read it first if you are not comfortable trusting the source; our guide to curl and wget covers saving it to a file to inspect. Calibre is also on Flathub:
flatpak install flathub com.calibre_ebook.calibre
