PodFetch: Self-Hosted Podcast Manager and Downloader

PodFetch is a self-hosted podcast manager: it subscribes to feeds, downloads episodes onto your storage, and serves them back to you.

Why download rather than stream

Podcast episodes disappear. Shows end, hosts move platforms, back catalogues get pulled behind subscriptions, and feeds go dead. Downloading episodes to your own disk means the ones you care about remain playable regardless of what happens to the publisher. It also removes the tracking that podcast networks embed in download URLs.

What it does

Feed subscription with automatic episode fetching, a web player, progress tracking across devices, and GPodder API support so third-party mobile clients such as AntennaPod can sync against it.

Storage planning

Audio adds up faster than people expect: an hour of speech at reasonable quality is roughly 30 to 60 MB, and a subscribed back catalogue can run to hundreds of gigabytes. Set retention rules early rather than discovering the disk is full.

Voilib complements this by transcribing episodes so their spoken content becomes searchable.
