About KnownHost

KnownHost has been selling managed VPS hosting since 2006 and has built its business almost entirely on support quality. Ticket response times in minutes rather than hours are the recurring theme in customer reports, and that consistency over nearly two decades is unusual in a market with high churn.

“Managed” here means what it should: they patch the operating system, configure the web stack, respond to security incidents, and will go into the server to fix things. That is a different product from an unmanaged VPS with a control panel bolted on.

The shared hosting tier exists but the VPS line is the reason to be here.

Pricing

Shared plans start around $3/month. Managed VPS starts around $35/month for 2 vCPU and 4GB on NVMe, and around $65/month for 4 vCPU and 8GB.

That is several times what an unmanaged equivalent costs at Hetzner or Contabo. The difference is the management, and whether that is worth paying for depends entirely on whether you want to spend your evenings reading journalctl output.

Service Details

cPanel or DirectAdmin included, with SSH and root access on VPS plans. Free migrations, free Let’s Encrypt certificates, daily off-server backups, and monitoring.

They run LiteSpeed on many plans and support the usual PHP version selection, Node.js, and Python applications.

The location list is short at four data centers, three US and one European, which is the main limitation. Latency to Asia or Oceania will be poor.

Recommended if you want a server that someone else keeps running and you are prepared to pay a fair price for that. Not the choice if you want root on the cheapest possible box, which is well covered elsewhere in this directory.

Available in: Dallas, Atlanta, Los Angeles, Amsterdam
