About AWS Amplify Hosting
Amplify Hosting is AWS’s managed front-end deployment service. Connect a repository, and it builds on push, stores the artifact, and serves it through CloudFront with a certificate from ACM. Behind the friendly console it is the usual AWS primitives, assembled for you.
Framework support goes beyond static output: Next.js, Nuxt, and Astro server-rendered modes are handled, with the server portion running on Lambda. That makes it a real alternative to Vercel for teams whose infrastructure already lives in AWS and who would rather not add another vendor.
Pricing
There is a 12-month free tier covering 1000 build minutes and 15GB served per month. Afterwards it is usage-based: around $0.01 per build minute and around $0.15/GB served, plus storage.
For a low-traffic site this is a few dollars a month. The thing to watch is build minutes on a repository with frequent pushes, since every commit to a connected branch triggers a build unless you configure otherwise.
As always with AWS, the hosting line is rarely the whole bill. Route 53, Lambda invocations, and any backend services are separate.
Service Details
Each branch can map to its own environment with its own domain, and pull requests get preview deployments. Build settings live in an amplify.yml file committed to the repository, so the pipeline is version controlled rather than clicked into a console.
Password protection on branches, custom headers, redirects, and rewrite rules are all configurable. Monorepos are supported, which is more than several competitors manage cleanly.
The wider Amplify product also generates backends with AppSync, DynamoDB, and Cognito. You can ignore all of that and use only the hosting, which is what most people should do unless they want the full framework.
Available in: Global via CloudFront, with builds in selectable AWS regions
