Render
A Heroku-style platform for web services, background workers, cron jobs, static sites, and managed databases, with a free tier for testing and flat workspace pricing layered on top of per-instance compute costs.

About Render
Render positions itself as a modern successor to Heroku’s developer experience: connect a git repository, and it builds and deploys web services, background workers, cron jobs, static sites, and managed Postgres or Redis databases without requiring manual server configuration.
Instance Types and Pricing
Web service instances range from a free tier (0.1 vCPU, 512MB RAM, which spins down after 15 minutes of inactivity and takes roughly a minute to wake back up) through Starter at $7/month, Standard at $25/month, up to Pro Ultra at $450/month for 32GB RAM and 8 vCPUs, with larger custom configurations available by sales quote up to 512GB RAM.
Workspace Plans
As of an April 2026 pricing change, Render removed per-seat fees in favor of flat workspace pricing: Hobby workspaces are free, Pro workspaces cost a flat $25/month with unlimited members, and Scale workspaces cost $499/month, also with unlimited members. Compute, databases, bandwidth, and custom domains are billed separately on top of the workspace plan.
Where It Fits
Render suits teams that want Heroku’s deploy-and-forget simplicity without Heroku’s pricing or the deprecation of Heroku’s free tier. The combination of a workspace fee plus per-instance compute costs takes a little more math to estimate a total bill than a single flat price, but it scales more predictably than pure usage-based platforms once you have several services running.
