Zorin OS is built specifically around the assumption that most new users are switching from Windows or macOS, and it shapes the entire first-run experience around minimizing that adjustment period.
What’s New in 18.1
Released six months after Zorin OS 18 and reportedly past 3.3 million downloads for that release, 18.1 adds polish across the board. The database used to detect Windows installer files for popular applications has grown by more than 40%, now recognizing over 240 apps and offering the correct Linux alternative or compatibility layer automatically. The release also includes LibreOffice 26.2, fingerprint reader support through a new Fingerprints settings section, and general performance improvements throughout the desktop.
New Lite Edition
18.1 reintroduces a Lite edition, aimed at older or lower-spec hardware that would struggle with the full GNOME-based Core or Pro editions, using a lighter desktop stack while keeping Zorin’s layout conventions intact.
Editions
Zorin OS Core is free and covers most users; Zorin OS Pro adds additional desktop layouts, premium wallpapers, and extra pre-installed software for a one-time fee, with proceeds funding continued development.
