VS Code 1.132 continues the editor’s steady push into AI-assisted development, adding element-level feedback inside the integrated browser, multilingual dictation support, side-by-side chat panels, and Markdown diff rendering in the hybrid Markdown editor.
Installing on Debian/Ubuntu
sudo apt install ./code_1.132.0-*_amd64.deb
Alternatively, add Microsoft’s APT repository for automatic updates through your package manager going forward, following the instructions on the official download page.
Other Install Methods
Fedora and openSUSE users can install the equivalent .rpm package, and a .tar.gz build is available for distributions without native packaging support. VS Code is also distributed as a Flatpak via Flathub, though Microsoft’s official builds are only published directly from code.visualstudio.com.
Note on Telemetry and Licensing
Microsoft’s official VS Code builds include telemetry collection (configurable but on by default) and a product license that restricts use of Microsoft’s official extension marketplace to these official builds specifically. Users who want the same editor without those terms typically use VSCodium, built from the same open-source source tree with Microsoft’s branding, telemetry, and marketplace restrictions removed.
