Tor Browser 15.0.24 was released on September 29, 2026, replacing 15.0.20 as the version to download. We covered it alongside Tails 7.14.
What changed
- Firefox 140.17.0esr, with security fixes backported from Firefox 157
- Tor 0.4.9.13
- NoScript 13.6.35
Tor Browser’s security depends almost entirely on staying current, since the browser is the realistic attack surface. Existing installs update themselves; let them.
Two things to know
New signing subkey. This release is signed with a new subkey. If you verify downloads with GPG, refresh the Tor Browser signing key first, or verification will fail even though the file is fine:
gpg --auto-key-locate nodefault,wkd --locate-keys torbrowser@torproject.org
gpg --verify tor-browser-linux-x86_64-15.0.24.tar.xz.asc tor-browser-linux-x86_64-15.0.24.tar.xz
Windows signing certificate. The certificate used to sign Windows installers expired on September 1, so the Tor Project’s download page lists 15.0.20 for Windows and relies on the built-in updater to reach 15.0.24. The Linux tarball is unaffected.
Running it on Linux
tar xf tor-browser-linux-x86_64-15.0.24.tar.xz
cd tor-browser
./start-tor-browser.desktop --register-app
Run it as your normal user, never as root. The Flathub torbrowser-launcher package downloads and verifies Tor Browser for you, which is the easiest option on most distributions. Our GPG basics guide explains what signature verification proves.
Verify Your Download
Each file in the distribution directory has a matching .asc signature, verified with the Tor Browser signing key as shown above.
