Rocky Linux was founded by Gregory Kurtzer, one of the original creators of CentOS, in direct response to Red Hat’s decision to shift CentOS Stream away from being a stable RHEL rebuild. It aims to be exactly what CentOS used to be: a free, bug-for-bug compatible downstream build of RHEL suitable for production.
Enterprise-Grade Without the License Fee
Rocky Linux 10.2 tracks RHEL 10’s package set closely, making it a common choice for servers, HPC clusters, and any environment that needs RHEL compatibility (for certified software, compliance requirements, or existing automation built around RHEL) without a Red Hat subscription.
Support Lifecycle
Rocky Linux 10 carries general (active) support until May 2030, with security-only support continuing through May 2035, matching RHEL 10’s own published lifecycle.
Download Options
