MX Linux 25.3 “Infinity” was released on September 20, 2026. It is a point release of the Debian 13 “Trixie” based MX 25 series, rebuilt on Debian 13.7.
What changed
Kernels. The standard images ship Debian’s 6.12.107 kernel, from the 6.12 longterm series. The Xfce AHS (Advanced Hardware Support) image instead carries a 7.2.6 Liquorix kernel for recent hardware.
Graphics. The AHS images include Mesa 26.1.4 and newer firmware backported from Debian Sid, which is the point of AHS: new GPUs and Wi-Fi chips that the stable Debian stack does not yet support.
Tools. MX Welcome, MX Tools, and the custom toolbox used by the Fluxbox edition have redesigned interfaces. MX Tools is the main reason people choose MX over plain Debian: graphical utilities for tasks like snapshots, boot options, and driver installation.
Editions
| Edition | For |
|---|---|
| Xfce | The flagship, a light and conventional desktop |
| KDE Plasma | Heavier, more features |
| Fluxbox | Very light, for old hardware |
| Xfce AHS | Recent hardware that needs newer kernel and graphics |
| Raspberry Pi | Pi boards |
If your hardware is from the last year or two, start with AHS.
Upgrading
Existing MX 25 installs do not need to reinstall. Normal updates bring the system to 25.3:
sudo apt update && sudo apt full-upgrade
Where it fits
MX combines Debian stability with a lot of desktop convenience, and it has consistently been one of the most popular distributions for people moving from Windows or reviving older machines. Our distro guide for beginners compares it with the other common choices.
