Do you need to do anything?
Mesa is the open source OpenGL and Vulkan implementation behind AMD, Intel, and increasingly NVIDIA graphics on Linux. You almost never install it by hand. Your distribution packages it, and on most systems it updates with everything else:
sudo pacman -Syu # Arch: usually within days
sudo dnf upgrade --refresh # Fedora: point releases arrive via updates
glxinfo -B | grep 'OpenGL version'
vulkaninfo --summary | grep driverInfo
Stable distributions such as Debian and Ubuntu LTS keep an older Mesa branch and backport only critical fixes. If you need a newer Mesa there for a recent GPU, Ubuntu’s kisak-mesa PPA or a hardware-enablement stack is the usual route rather than building from source. Our Mesa graphics stack explainer covers how the pieces fit, and Linux GPU drivers explained covers where Mesa ends and the kernel driver begins.
Building it
Building Mesa is for driver developers and people bisecting regressions. It uses Meson:
tar xf mesa-26.2.3.tar.xz && cd mesa-26.2.3
meson setup build -Dvulkan-drivers=amd,intel -Dgallium-drivers=radeonsi,iris
ninja -C build
