Firefox 157 was released on September 29, 2026. It is the release that ships Project Nova, Mozilla’s biggest visual refresh in years. We covered it in the news. The previous release is Firefox 156.
What changed
- Nova redesign of the toolbar, sidebar, and menus
- Density modes: Compact, Standard, and Touch
- New built-in light and dark themes, and dialogs and pickers that follow the page’s colour scheme
- Hardware AV1 decoding for WebRTC calls, easing CPU load and battery drain on video calls
- HDR video for 8-bit formats, and better audio/video sync when changing playback speed
- Vertical tabs work better in full screen
- A warning when TLS encryption keys are being recorded
On Linux, hardware decoding depends on a working VA-API driver; our hardware video acceleration guide covers checking it in about:support.
