Blender has grown from a niche open-source 3D tool into an industry-relevant application used for everything from indie game assets to feature film VFX, while remaining completely free and open source under the GPL.
What’s in the 5.x Series
The 5.x line continues refining Blender’s real-time Eevee Next renderer, Cycles path tracing performance, and the Geometry Nodes system for procedural modeling. 5.1.2 is a stability-focused point release; Blender 5.2 LTS is expected shortly after, offering a longer-term stable branch for studios and add-on developers who need API stability across a longer window.
Installing on Linux
The tarball linked here is Blender’s official, portable Linux build, it doesn’t require installation, just extract and run:

cd blender-5.1.2-linux-x64
./blender
This makes it easy to run multiple Blender versions side by side without conflicts, useful when a specific add-on or project depends on a particular version. Blender is also available via Snap and Flatpak for users who prefer managed updates.
