Arch Linux ships no fixed version numbers, only a continuously updated rolling package base. The monthly ISO snapshots exist purely as an installation convenience, giving new installs a more current starting point so there’s less to update immediately after first boot.
What’s in the July 2026 ISO
This snapshot ships Linux kernel 7.0.14, Archinstall 4.4 (the guided installer, now built on Python 3.14+ with a modern Textual-based interface and LUKS2 disk encryption support), systemd 261.1, and a refreshed firmware set (linux-firmware 20260622) covering AMD, Intel, NVIDIA, Realtek, Broadcom, and several other common hardware vendors.
Who Arch Is For
Arch’s minimalist base install and KISS design philosophy mean you build the system up from a command-line environment rather than starting from a full desktop. This gives complete control and a deep understanding of what’s installed, at the cost of a steeper initial setup than beginner-oriented distributions. The Arch Wiki is widely regarded as some of the best Linux documentation available, regardless of which distribution you actually run.
Existing Arch Installs Don’t Need This
If you’re already running Arch, pacman -Syu keeps your system current through the rolling-release model. The monthly ISO is only relevant for new installations.
